Product Details
A clutch-type mechanical seal features an internal drive mechanism—typically a clutch ring or collar—that ensures the seal's rotating ring maintains precise rotational alignment with the shaft. The clutch allows torque transmission even if the central spring becomes clogged or partially disengaged, ensuring consistent seal face rotation and reliable operation
Installation: The clutch collar presses onto the seal head, keeping the rotary seal component aligned with the shaft.
Start-up: The spring applies axial load, loading the faces together. The clutch engages, locking rotary and housing parts together.
Operation: Shaft rotation spins the seal faces via clutch engagement. A thin fluid film (<10 µm) lubricates the faces, preventing direct contact and wear .
Clogging resilience: If spring force diminishes or dirt blocks spring seating, the clutch still enforces rotation, maintaining sealing while the fluid film manages face loading.
Advantages
Robust rotation, even with spring blockage
Reliable torque transfer via integrated clutch
Bi-directional operation—no directional limits
Ideal for slurry or abrasive fluids thanks to blocked-spring tolerance
