A multi‑spring mechanical seal uses several coil springs arranged circumferentially around the shaft to provide uniform axial pressure on the sealing faces. This design ensures even contact, enhanced stability, and improved sealing performance, especially compared to single‑spring configurations

Operating Principle

 

The multiple springs press the rotating face into the stationary face, forming a microscopic lubricating fluid film (a few microns thick) when the shaft rotates . This film prevents direct contact, reducing wear and controlling heat. If one spring fails, the remaining springs maintain sealing pressure, providing redundancy and reliability.
