Single Coil Mechanical Seal

A Single Coil Mechanical Seal is a type of end-face seal used to prevent fluid leakage in rotating equipment, such as pumps, mixers, and compressors. It is one of the most widely used mechanical seal designs, known for its simplicity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The term "single coil" refers to the presence of a single helical spring, which provides the necessary axial force to keep the seal faces in contact during operation.

This type of seal typically consists of a rotating face (often made of carbon, ceramic, or silicon carbide), a stationary face, and an elastomeric component such as an O-ring or rubber bellows. The coil spring allows for axial movement, compensating for shaft misalignment, vibration, and thermal expansion. The spring design also facilitates even loading across the seal faces, ensuring consistent sealing performance and extended service life.
